5 Top Films for a Courier to Enjoy

By

If you work as a courier driver then it's probably a reasonable assumption that you enjoy driving. For that reason, you may also enjoy watching films that involve driving, and if so you have many excellent films to choose from. But have you seen these five classics? If not, get down to your local DVD shop and check them out.
1. Driving Miss Daisy
This classic from 1989 tells the story of Miss Daisy who hires the driver, Hoke, to help her to get around. Based on the play by Alfred Uhry, it stars Jessica Tandy as Miss Daisy and Morgan Freeman as Hoke. It won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay. It is an interesting and insightful film including themes of racism and prejudice in America, and is one of the best driving films around.
2. Easy Rider
Courier drivers are known for enjoying the freedom of the open road and never has a film portrayed this better than in Easy Rider, the mother of all road movies. This film truly defined a generation when it was released in 1969. Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda wrote and starred in the film, which depicts a road journey across America. It captured the moment perfectly and is as enjoyable today as it was when it first came out.
3. Taxi Driver
Directed by Martin Scorsese, this classic starring Robert De Niro as the taxi driver Travis Bickle was nominated for four Oscars when it came out in 1976. Although violent and disturbing, it is one of the best films ever made, so if you're a courier and haven't seen it already then make sure you do.
4. The Fast and the Furious
Although not considered quite a classic, this is one of the most popular driving films to come out in recent years. It depicts a group of drivers involved in street racing, and is a thrilling and fast-paced film well worth a look. There are now many films in the series, but the original is still the best. Don't be tempted to try any of the stunts on your courier jobs though!
5. The Italian Job
This is not a driving film per se, but the car chase at the end in the Minis is one of the best chases in cinema history. Aside from that, it's an excellent film with a memorable performance by Michael Caine. There is a remake, but the original is definitely the best!
